CUPERTINO, CALIFORNIA / ConSynSer / – Apple on Wednesday, October 28, introduced an all-new MacBook Pro with a PROLED XDR display built on tandem OLED technology. The laptop also brings Touch capabilities to the Mac for the first time. Available in 14- and 16-inch models, it is powered by Apple’s M5 Pro and M5 Max processors. The new MacBook Pro offers up to 24 hours of battery life in a thinner and lighter design. Pre-orders opened the same day, with availability beginning Friday, November 6.

The PROLED XDR display reaches up to 2,000 nits of peak HDR and SDR brightness. Apple says it delivers an industry-leading 10,000,000:1 contrast ratio. It supports a 120Hz variable refresh rate and a color gamut covering both P3 and Adobe RGB, with more than 80% Rec. 2020 coverage. Every panel is calibrated at the factory. A nano-texture option etched into the cover glass further reduces reflections and glare.
Johny Srouji, Apple’s chief hardware officer, called the new MacBook Pro a monumental step forward for the Mac. Srouji said PROLED XDR is the world’s best laptop display. The display engine controls the color and brightness of each pixel at the sub-millisecond level. ProMotion technology adjusts refresh rates from as low as 10Hz for efficiency up to 120Hz for fluid motion. New calibration tools and DICOM medical imaging reference modes support professional workflows.
Touch and Dynamic Island come to Mac
The touch sensor is built directly into the display panel rather than layered on top, reducing latency. Users can swipe to scroll, pinch to zoom, drag slides between presentations and flick windows into place. Designers can draw across the full screen, while musicians can play software instruments directly onscreen. A newly designed hinge adds stability during touch use. Apps including Microsoft Word, Zoom, Adobe Lightroom, DaVinci Resolve and Blender will support Touch.
The Dynamic Island also arrives on the Mac as the new home for Spotlight, Live Activities and Siri AI. Users can ask questions, take phone calls, control music or accept AirDrop requests from the top of the screen. The laptop runs macOS 27, which brings Siri AI and expanded Apple Intelligence features. The display can also match colors with the iPhone 18 Pro through Apple Color Matching Function 2026.
Lighter design and M5 performance
The 14-inch model now weighs 3 pounds, half a pound less than before, while the 16-inch model weighs 4 pounds, a 0.7-pound reduction. Slimmer borders expand the screens to 14.2 and 16.3 inches. M5 Pro and M5 Max offer up to 128GB of unified memory and up to 16TB of storage. Apple first brought the M5 Pro and M5 Max chips to MacBook Pro in March. M5 Max can run large language models with hundreds of billions of parameters on device.
The 14-inch model with M5 Pro starts at $2,899, and the 16-inch M5 Pro version starts at $3,399. Models with M5 Max start at $4,499 and $4,799. The laptop includes three Thunderbolt 5 ports, HDMI, an SDXC card slot, MagSafe and Wi-Fi 7. A six-speaker system delivers 50% deeper bass. Apple said the MacBook Pro is made with 55% recycled content, including 100% recycled aluminum in the enclosure. Pre-orders are open in 30 countries and regions.
